Family Photos in San Jose, CA
This sweet family of three celebrated their baby boy with a classic, modern family photography session. This sweet couple shared that they’d been together for 11 years! They truly radiated love for each other.
One of my favorite things about this particular gallery is the yin and yang of emotions and moments captured here. I adore “yang” family photos— capturing laughter, excitement, energy, and movement. But I am also drawn to the “yin” moments in family photos — the subtle sweetness, the slow stillness, the soft smiles. I love photos where everyone closes their eyes and holds on to their loved ones tight. This blend of energy and stillness, laughter and quiet contentment, intimacy and adventure are my favorite things to document.
Wardrobe is one of the key elements that make for beautiful family photos, and I love this family’s wardrobe choices! I definitely recommend neutrals like whites and navy, which are timeless and classic. Dad’s sweater, although it has stripes, still looks great because everyone else is wearing solid fabrics, plus the colors coordinate with other family member’s outfits. Strategically incorporating tasteful patterns can look great in photos! And of course, mom’s beautiful dress really helps make this gallery pop. I almost always recommend that my mothers wear a warm dash of color to add life and vibrance and visual interest. Yellow, orange, red, sienna, burgundy, and rust are all gorgeous color palettes and flattering tones for women.
This is one of my all time favorite locations in the SF Bay Area. What I like about this spot is that it’s quiet and beautiful, with panoramic views of the rolling mountains. Two disadvantages of this location is that they don’t allow dogs, and the drive tends to be pretty far depending on which part of the Bay Area you’re coming from.
When picking a location for family photos, there’s usually a bit of adventuring involved. On one hand, this location is great because it features minimal walking. On the other hand, it does have a long winding drive to reach the top of the mountain. In my opinion, the drive is absolutely worth it!
This family photo session was scheduled in the middle of the Fall season. If you’re thinking of scheduling family photos, I recommend scheduling early to secure a date on my calendar!
These photos were photographed on a 5D Mark IV and an 85mm 1.4 lens. They were edited in both Lightroom and Photoshop, using no actions or presets.
